5 Hidden Causes of Acne
There are many causes of acne. If you suffer from acne or know someone that does, you know that no matter what the cause, acne can really impact your life. June is acne awareness month. All this month I’ll be sharing some little known facts about acne, PLUS sharing more information about the revolutionary acne treatment program I now offer.
If you feel like you’ve tried everything and still can’t seem to get your face cleared up, here are a few hidden causes of acne you may have overlooked.
1. Diet
The foods you eat can play a role in the condition of your skin. For example, did you know that consuming whey protein may trigger acne? Researchers are unsure why, but whey protein may make your acne worse if you are sensitive to it. Peanuts can also be a culprit. Peanuts are known to raise your testosterone levels and as a result, may trigger a breakout. So, while you may be avoiding the common triggers, like greasy foods, chocolate, etc., there could be other, less common foods, known to be causes of acne. Try eliminating one item at a time and seeing if your skin clears up. If it does, you’ve found the culprit!
2. Consider Your Makeup Routine
If you have tried everything and still can’t seem to clear up your acne, you need to look at everything you are putting on your face. I’m talking everything from your cleansing products, right down to the makeup you’re using. Many makeups contain harsh chemicals that can irritate your skin. Additionally, some makeups are heavy and can contain ingredients that can clog your pores. Lastly, think about your makeup brushes. They can quickly accumulate bacteria that you will spread across your face if you’re not cleaning your brushes regularly and thoroughly.
3. Are you stressed?
Stress can wreak havoc on your skin and is one of the common causes of acne. When you’re stressed your hormones change. These hormones can trigger breakouts. I won’t say “don’t stress” cause I know that is nearly impossible to do sometimes, but instead, when you feel stressed try to get enough sleep, exercise, stay hydrated and stick to your skin care routine to avoid breakouts or clear them up quickly should they happen.
4. Clean Your Cellphone
Cellphones are dirty! Even if it looks clean, your cellphone still gathers bacteria and all kinds of dirt. If you’re breaking out around your cheeks, chin or mouth, your cellphone may be the problem. Cleaning your phone with alcohol based wipes may help, just be sure not to put your face to them while wet, as these chemicals could also irritate your skin.
5. The Gym
The gym could be another hidden factor causing your acne. Putting your face on yoga mats, gym equipment or anything that hasn’t been properly washed after someone else has used it could spread bacteria and dirt. Exposure to these things can trigger breakouts!
Medicine doesn’t have to be an option
As I said, if you’ve tried everything and nothing seems to be working, consider the 5 hidden causes of acne I just ran through. You may find your problem there. If none of those apply to you, or you feel like you’ve addressed these issues, before you turn to medication, you should know, it’s not your only option.
