Nearing Your 40’s or Already There, Here’s Your Skincare 411
The saying goes, the older you get, the wiser you become. When we reach our 40’s we have learned a lot in this world, and about ourselves, and we still shouldn’t stop. That’s where I come in. I am your professional and educated skincare expert to help you navigate the changes in your skin and keep your skin smooth and radiant. Here are some things to know to help.

Correction is harder than prevention
Warding off wrinkles and preventing brown spots must be part of your routine before they start to show up on your skin. The loss of collagen, which leads to wrinkles, starts in our 20’s, losing 1% per year from there. That means by your 40s, you’ve likely lost about 24% of the collagen you once had.
Signs of excessive sun exposure and lack of sunscreen use in your early years will start to show up on your skin in your 30’s.
Once both of these things appear on your skin, you go from investing in prevention products to paying for corrective treatments and products.
It’s never too early to start a preventative skincare routine. The key is staying consistent over time.
2. Toner is not optional
While you may have been able to get away without using toner in your 20s, toner is not optional as you age. You want to use a toner that contains ingredients to help gently remove dead skin cells. It should also be pH balancing, reduce redness and increase hydration. Incorporating all these things will help with your next skin care steps and allow for better absorption of the products you use after your toner. Coming soon is Luxe Skin Care’s Refine + Refresh Toner.
3. Exfoliation is everything
Again, aging slows cell turn over. This means dead cells can accumulate making your skin look dull and the texture of your skin may feel rough. If you don’t exfoliate, dead skin cells can also lead to breakouts, fine lines, enlarged pores and the dreaded sun spots. Giving your skin the at-home exfoliation it needs will help reduce breakouts, sweep away dull complexion, brighten dark spots and soften fine lines.
4. Serums are your BFF
There are many different types of serums. Finding the right serums for your skin can be overwhelming. But, I promise when you do find the right one, serums are power packed goodies with highly concentrated active ingredients that will treat skin concerns. Serums can treat issues like dark spots, acne, aging and sensitivities. Serums are the strong arm in your skin care regimen to help stimulate collagen, elasticity, reduce redness, and stimulate cell turn over.
5. Retinol is a must
Vitamin A is the master at keeping your skin glowing and youthful. It helps speed up cell turnover and boost collagen production giving your appearance a reduction in wrinkles as well as improving your skin’s texture and firmness.
Vitamin A comes in many forms and claims, however, it was important to me to have the best non-prescription retinoid. Retinyl Proprionate can go deeper than others to reduce skin cell degradation, increases cell metabolism, and smooth the skin by increasing collagen production. Retinoids are one of the few topical products that have the ability to reverse skin damage.
6. Your skin needs a vitamin C serum
Vitamin C is one of the most important ingredients to start using in your 20’s and continue using through the years. It protects against UV damage and helps give support to your collagen. My favorite Vitamin C serum is from the Luxe Skin Care line! It’s called PepC+ Vitamin C Serum.
Using a Vitamin C serum daily can help brighten, firm, fight against oxidative stress, reduce redness, stimulate collagen production, and helps to minimize hyperpigmentation from solar damage and acne marks.
7. Be Consistent
Using all the right products won’t bring the results you want if you don’t use them as advised and consistently. No matter what skin concerns you have, acne, fine lines or dark spots, if you want to keep your skin in its best condition, daily maintenance is a requirement. A foundational regimen includes a cleanser, toner, serum, and SPF. Using all four steps consistently will maximize the benefits and enhances the active serums. Never forget the SPF that protects your skin from the harmful rays of the sun and elements of the environment.
8. You need me, an Esthetician
I am here to help you with your skin care. Bi-weekly or monthly treatments like chemical peels and a deep cleaning to help boost your skin’s radiance and skin care at home. I completely customize all treatments to your unique skin conditions whether it’s acne, brown spots, fine line or lax skin. Of course corrective facials are not a once-and-done. Just like going to the gym, everything is ongoing to achieve and keep results.
Whether you are looking for preventative strategies, or you need a corrective treatment plan, I’d love to help you get the skin you deserve. Contact me to schedule a consultation!
