Face Reality™ Acne Program

Acne is a mysterious skin disorder, but one thing is for sure – it can be controlled with the right combination of products, used in the correct way. Just as in a clogged drain, the pore must be treated with products that unclog it and kill the acne bacteria.

Face Reality Acne Program has a clear-skin system that will have your acne under control in about three to four months, depending on your type of acne and your commitment. We combine the power of clinical-grade products that are customized for your type of acne, with a series of bi-monthly treatments. We also teach you about other aggravating factors that make you break out – foods, medications, cosmetics, stress, and common ingredients in skin care formulations that might be clogging your pores (even professional and prescription products).

As you go through your process of achieving clear skin on your face and/or body, you will want to come in for treatments every two weeks. Treatments are for:

  • exfoliating the skin so that home care products can penetrate the pore more easily; or,
  • hydrating the skin so that the skin is receptive to your home-care regimen
  • extracting existing acne impactions
  • killing acne bacteria inside the pore

Each acne treatment is specifically focused on what the skin needs at the time of treatment. Sometimes the skin will need more hydration, other times it will need more anti-bacterial and/or anti-inflammatory action.

Acne Consultation (60-Minute) - $50

We will determine your skin type, acne type and skin tolerance to create your customized home care and treatment plan to get clear skin. We will also go over triggers that lead to breakouts – foods, medications, lifestyle choices, etc.

You will also get step by step instructions on how to use your home care products to get your skin clear.

*Products are not included. Approximate cost of initial home care is $150

No treatment will be performed in consultation only appointments.

If you have previously been on program with another provider, you will still need a consult for your skin and treatment history.

Acne Consultation with Initial Treatment (90-Minute) - $105
When you get an acne treatment in your first appointment, the initial treatment fee is reduced. Your consultation will include an analysis of your prior treatments, medications, supplements, lifestyle, diet, skin analysis and determination of acne type.  Based on your acne type, a customized treatment will consist of a combination of one or more: (a thorough cleanse, steam, chemical peel, enzyme treatment, extractions.
Acne Treatments (for returning follow up Face Reality Acne Program clients only)

Facial Acne Treatment (45-Minute) – $75
Series of 3 – $200

We will want to see you every two weeks for an acne treatment. It typically takes about six to eight services over a 3 to 4-month period of time to get you mostly to completely clear. As your Acne Specialist I will:

  • assess what type of treatment your skin needs when you come in. I will also
  • assess how your home care regimen will be adjusted so that your skin does not over-adapt and stop responding.

Back Acne Treatment (45-Minute) – $75
Series of 6 – $200

Acne on the body is assessed the same way as on the face.  We still test the skin for sensitivity and tolerance to products.  Often, the back needs stronger products because the skin is thicker and less sensitive than on the face.

Acne Rosacea Treatment (45-Minute) – $75
Series of 3 – $200

Even though Acne Rosacea is not acne, it still responds to an anti-bacterial regimen much the same as acne. It usually clears up much more quickly than acne and will stay clear as long as product use is maintained. We educate you on food and environmental triggers that can make rosacea worse.

LED(Light Therapy) is also a good treatment add on to help reduce inflammation and aid in the clearing of your acne.

Face Reality™ Acne Program – FAQs

What is acne?

For most, acne is an inherited condition of the skin in which the skin cells inside pores shed faster than can be expelled leading to clogged pores. Normal pores shed about one layer of skin cells a day. Acne prone skin can shed up to five times that amount. The build up of dead skin cells, called “hyperkeratosis” leads to plugs within the pore or “microcomedones.” Clogged pores create the perfect anaerobic environment for the P.Acnes bacteria. This bacteria feeds on the oil from your skin and proliferates. It’s important to note that OIL is not the cause of acne; it’s just one thing that contributes to the problem.

Because acne is a DEAD SKIN CELL PROBLEM and starts with the formation of microcomedones deep inside pores, it is crucial to use products that are able to penetrate the pores to kill bacteria and expel excess dead cells. Face Reality products do just that!

What to expect at consultation and treatments?
We determine your specific acne type (inflamed, non-inflamed, hormonal) and identify factors that may be causing your acne. You will receive an acne guide with valuable information about ingredients, food, habits and lifestyle choices that aggravate acne as well as a list of acne-safe make-up recommendations. After a thorough skin analysis, we will perform extractions and do a light treatment peel to kick-start the clearing process. We will design a customized home-care routine using products with acne safe ingredients and set up a treatment schedule.
How long does it take to get clear skin?
While many clients see an improvement in their skin within the first month, it usually takes about 6 treatments over a 3-4 month period of time to get at least 90% clear. This is because it takes 30-90 days for existing acne impactions to make their way to the surface to be extracted.
How often should you come in for Acne Treatment?
In order to get clear as fast as possible, we recommend coming in for acne treatment every 2 weeks during the first few months. The purpose of treatment is to accelerate exfoliation, extract acne plugs as they surface, hydrate the skin and assess your home care routine. Your treatments and home care is vital in getting clear.
Why do you adjust home care routine every two weeks?
Acne skin has the ability to adapt to products. We want to strengthen your home care routine every few weeks to stay ahead of your skin’s ability to adapt and keep pushing your skin to get clear. If you are unable to come in that often, we’ll still get you clear, it will just take longer.
What will it cost for products?
You should expect to spend about $100-175 on products at your first visit for cleanser, treatment serum, acne night treatment gel, moisturizer, sunscreen and toner. The cost of dermatologist appointments, prescriptions and products that may be contributing to your acne can really add up. Face Reality’s pharmaceutical grade skin products range from $12-$40.
Does acne treatment work?
Yes! We have chosen this program because The Face Reality Acne Treatment Program has a 95% success rate, with commitment on your end of course. Their protocols and treatment plans have been tested and refined over the years. They have been treating clients at their acne clinic in California since the early 1990s with many happy and clear-faced customers. Now, they train estheticians all over the country in their methods.
What is the key to clear skin?
Your diligence using the right acne-safe products and getting regular professional acne treatments with extractions is the key to clear skin!
How is this acne treatment program different than regular facials?
  • The Face Reality Skincare line offers a range of products in different strengths that can be customized to treat your specific type of acne and severity (it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach).
  • You have a personal acne expert to coach you through your specific skin problems, and is available to answer your questions anytime and walk with you every step of the way.
  • We adjust, not add more products to your home-care routine every few weeks to push your skin to clear faster. (This takes monitoring so that skin doesn’t get too dry or irritated).
  • The system addresses all aspects of getting your skin clear (lifestyle, diet, hyperkeratosis, bacteria), not just one area.
Can you get rid of acne scars?
What most people consider acne “scars” are actually red, purple or brown marks left behind by old acne lesions. These are not true acne scars. This is called Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) and can be addressed with a series of light chemical peels and the right home-care products to lighten. True acne scars are deeper and may look like an indentation or pitting.
Why do I need professional products for my acne?
Many acne products you find at the drugstore that claim to be good for acne actually contain pore-clogging ingredients or simply stop working (if they help at all). Face Reality’s products are specifically formulated for acne prone skin and will not to clog pores. We adjust your regimen, not by adding more products but by changing up how they’re used. The products contain pharmaceutical grade ingredients that clear current acne and prevent pores from filling up again.
Will antibiotics clear my acne?
Unfortunately, it’s a growing trend for doctors to prescribe antibiotics or Accutane to patients without providing alterative options or addressing the root causes of acne. Antibiotics tend to work for a time on some inflamed acne, but only deals with the bacteria associated with acne, not the main issue of excess skin cells. Therefore, once you stop taking the antibiotic, your acne will come right back. It is also not safe to take antibiotics long-term.
What about Accutane for acne?
Accutane is a very powerful drug with dangerous side effects that can last long after you have stopped taking the drug. It dries you out from the inside and can leave you with permanently dry, sensitive skin. Additional side effects can include possible birth defects, depression, psychosis, Crohn’s disease, internal organ damage, muscle and bone loss, central nervous system damage and immune system disorders – to name a few. Often, acne returns after stopping Accutane and multiple rounds are required. If you are considering going on Accutane, let’s do a consultation and then consider your options.

You must be off the drug Accutane for at least 90 days, and/or off any prescription topical and other oral acne meds for at least two weeks, before you can begin our program. These drugs cause heightened sensitivity to the skin, and our products and treatments may be too strong.

No Face Reality Acne Treatments or extractions will be performed on anyone who is not in our acne program and on Face Reality home care products.

Products are not included in consultation or treatments.
